We developed a new audio tour for the Amuze app, this time for the National Gallery of Art. As part of the Smithsonian, this museum is free, and it has an amazing collection of paintings and statues. Another great thing about this museum is that they offer a free audio guide. However, we still decided to develop our own tour for this museum as everyone’s taste for art and audio differs. Our tour offers three potential advantages over the audio tours provided by the museum.
The National Gallery of Art has a lot of amazing art to offer, ranging from Medieval art to works from the 20th century. One absolute highlight is that the museum has the only work in the Americas by Leonardo da Vinci on display. Ginevra de’ Benci is an early portrait by Da Vinci. The girl has a mysterious expression just like we know from the Mona Lisa in the Louvre. Another unique aspect of the National Gallery of Art is that it has the largest permanent collection of works by Johannes Vermeer. Of the 35 surviving works by this unique artist, four are on display in the museum, among which the Woman Holding a Balance. These works are so peaceful and balanced that you don’t get the feeling that anything should be changed in the composition. The tour further contains works by artists like Fra Angelico, Raphael, and Rubens. And, of course, the Impressionists are covered, with works by Degas, Monet, and Renoir. We highly recommend visiting this free museum and hope you will enjoy our free tour of it.
Cheers, Eelco
