The story of Amuze

Amuze is a project started by Eelco Kappe, a former marketing professor at Penn State University. My mission is to make your museum visits more enjoyable. I have visited a lot of museums and like to take an audio tour such that I can explore the museum at my own tempo. I have rented many audio devices and downloaded numerous museum apps. There are some great apps out there and some of them are even free, but I was not impressed by most of them for a variety of reasons:

  1. Some museums have no app with audio content available and you have to get a device and headphones from the museum. I found myself often walking around with a device around my neck, a printed map in one hand, and my phone in the other hand. I got frustrated with the inconvenience of juggling with all these items while trying to admire the art in the museum.

  2. Renting devices in a museum can be expensive.

  3. The quality of the audio content across museums varies widely and only few times I was truly impressed by the quality of the entertainment and the information provided.

  4. Downloading a museum app can sometimes be a painful experience as the apps are large and the quality of the Wi-Fi in some museums is not great. This is not surprising as some of the best museums in the world are located in large marble structures where good Wi-Fi connections are hard to deliver.

  5. Museums apps can be complicated. I just wanted to take a tour myself and get started right away. Instead, I often found myself spending a lot of time figuring out the different features of each app before being able to start my museum tour.

  6. For every museum, I needed to download a new app, resulting in a large folder of museum apps on my phone.

As a result of these experiences, I decided to develop an app for museum visitors that is easy-to-use, has great audio content, content that downloads quickly, and has tours for multiple museums. I believe that this will allow you to make your museum visits enjoyable and that is what art is all about.

I would love to hear your feedback on the app such that I can further develop my mission! Any suggestions, tips, experiences, etc. are welcome! Just send me a message through the contact form on this website or email me directly. I will get back to you!

Cheers, Eelco
